Kieren Perrow was here charging Chopes back in 1998, the first year the surfing world saw Teahupo'o with its teeth fully bared. Fourteen years later, the kid from Byron Bay has a Pipe Masters title and the respect of everyone on tour for his calm and friendly demeanour and willingness to chuck himself over the ledge. But KP isn't just a smiling, slightly bearded face. He's a smart guy who's involved at the top end via his role as surfer rep on the ASP Board.

At a time of financial difficulty in the surf industry, as the Board considers its next moves to consolidate the sport, what does Kieren think matters most in pro surfing? And why's he riding a 6'2" Mick Fanning model??
