SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SURFERS SECURE HIGH POSITIONS AT DAY 3 OF BILLABONG PRO TAHARA PRESENTED BY XPERIA SONY SMARTPHONE AT TAHARA AICHI

The ASP 4 Star Event Billabong Pro Tahara presented by XPERIA Sony Smartphone, is the largest surfing event in Japan. Today for Day 3 the event completed the round of 64 .

With clear skies and summer weather at Tahara this morning the conditions were 1 to 3 ft (1meter) with clean conditions.

As today the top seeded surfers make their first appearance at event and they went to score high. As 10 Japanese surfers, 1 Hawaiian, 2 Australian secure 1st position and move to the round of 32, today it was 3 more surfers all from the southern hemisphere who went high today.

The surfer who took top honor for the highest wave and heat score was Indonesia's, Gold Coast/Palm Beach based Hairil "Oney" Anwar (IND).

Anwar scores a excellent 8.67 and a combined score of 16.17 to take both honors. New Zealander Matt-Lewis Hewitt(NZL) takes both 2nd by a excellent 8.50 and 16.00.

Equal 3rd in wave by 8.00 points and 4th in heat score with 14.70 points was 2011 Asian Grand Champion , I Made Rondi (IND) from Kuta Bali.

First call tomorrow morning is 8:30 AM.

Running for 5 days, the event started today on the 25th of July and will run through to the 29th, at Tahara in Aichi Prefecture. The event boasts a total prize pool of USD $95,000 and will be held at Long Beach, Irago. Long Beach is a magical stretch of beach, which boasts potential high performance beach breaks is well known for its perfect sand banks which once formed make Long Beach a high quality left hand point break.
